I’ve lost my fermentation bin lid – what can I use to replace it?

I’ve the lost the lid and was wondering if there is something round the house I can use as an alternative? Does it need to be air-tight? Would clingfilm do the job? I’m looking to brew beer from a kit. Thanks.

You can use a clean towel to place over it, thats what the old timers did, you want the carbon dioxide to escape but keep the outside air from getting in. Thats what I would do in an emergency till I get a replacement. Or you can place a clean pizza pan over it then a towel, the gas is going to escape one way or another the pan won’t prevent it from getting out.
