It is because everyone wants to go to Vegas over New Years, so they can charge more because the rooms fill up. Try something downtown on Fremont. It is cheaper there.

Go to and use the Jan 1 arrival date and Jan 5 as departure and you will get some good prices. From $34 a night. Do not use Dec. 31 because that’s the big night. The day after is when everyone is leaving so the prices drop significantly. Even the Luxor is only $85 a night. Good deals.

Check to hotel rates on or for great rates on air travel, rental cars, and hotels.

Most people on tight budgets don’t try to go to Vegas during the biggest holiday and busiest time of year. Since the new year is “just another day”, then change your plans and go on the 2nd or 3rd.
You have got to be kidding me that you don’t understand why it cost more during New Years.

and you may find great rates at the Tropicana. I always do and I love it there. In April I stayed for five nights in an upgraded room for $150 TOTAL! On the strip, you can’t find better than that!

I’m going Jan 13th and I booked an Island Tower room at the Tropicana for $87 a night for 3 nights. I think it will cost like $300 overall… maybe.. I wouldn’t go during New Years, everything will be packed. Try going mid-Jan or Feb, the flights are cheaper and so are the hotels! Check out the calenders on the hotels’ websites, they tell you what each day will cost. That’s how I found my deal.
Hope that helped!

Come after New Year’s for the better deals. The town is usually sold out and the prices triple on The Strip.
If you really have to come during Xmas try South Coast, Gold Coast or Orleans, all locals casino hotels very near the Strip. Also try Circus Circus which has a motel/manor, Tropicana, Imperial Palace, and Sahara.
IF I were you I would come after New Years when the prices are more reasonable and there are not 300,000 people fighting for rooms.
